Where to Eat Out in August: Dublin’s 5 Must-Try Spots

August in Dublin is basically the city at its finest—warm (ish) days, buzzing streets, and a food scene that’s absolutely thriving. If you’re anything like me, your summer to-do list is pretty much just a list of restaurants you want to try. Lucky for you, I’ve got the inside scoop on where you should be heading this month. Grab your stretchy pants and let’s dive into some of the best spots to eat out in August!

For a Little Fiesta: 777

John Farrell’s 777 has been serving up modern Mexican magic since 2012, and it’s still one of the hottest tickets in town. Think innovative small plates that keep you coming back for more and margaritas that are basically summer in a glass. If you’re smart, you’ll make Sunday your day to visit—selected dishes drop to just €7.77, which is basically a steal. And don’t miss the ‘Afuera’ area out back. Born during the pandemic, it’s now a permanent fixture where you can soak up the vibes with your tacos. Just remember, they only take bookings for groups of six or more, so maybe round up the squad for this one.

A Sicilian Getaway: Amuri

If you’ve ever dreamt of being whisked away to Sicily but your budget only allows for a bus ride to the city center, Amuri is your spot. Tucked just past St. Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre on Chatham Street, this charming eatery feels like a backstreet Osteria in Palermo. Brothers Luca and Andrea have created a slice of Sicily right here in Dublin, and it’s the real deal. The caponata, pasta alle sarde, and arancino are the stuff of legends—seriously, they could bring a tear to a Sicilian’s eye. And the atmosphere? You’ll feel like you’ve been adopted into the family by the time you leave. It’s warm, welcoming, and oh-so-Sicilian.

Food with a Mission: As One

If you’re into food that’s not just delicious but also purposeful, As One is a must-visit. This place isn’t just about serving good food; it’s about building relationships with the people who grow and make that food. Expect dishes packed with whole foods, ferments, and minimal messing around—gut health is the name of the game here. It’s a place where every bite feels like it’s doing good things for your body, and honestly, who couldn’t use a little more of that in their life?

Brunch All Day, Every Day: Brother Hubbard, Ranelagh

Ranelagh got a serious brunch upgrade when Brother Hubbard opened its doors in 2022. This Middle Eastern-inspired café is the perfect spot to kick back with some of the best all-day brunch in town. Everything is made in-house, from the breads and pastries to the pickles and preserves. It’s a labor of love, and you can taste it in every bite. Whether you’re after something sweet, savory, or somewhere in between, Brother Hubbard has you covered

For the Love of Steak: FX Buckley, Temple Bar

When you’re craving a good steak, start with a good butcher—and FX Buckley is as good as it gets. What began as a humble butcher shop in the 1930s has grown into a small chain of restaurants across Dublin, each one offering classic steakhouse vibes with a side of history. Think leather banquettes, heavy wooden furniture, and moody artwork setting the scene. The steaks are cooked over charcoal, giving them that perfect, smoky flavor. While all their locations are solid, the Crow Street FXB in Temple Bar takes the cake for atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where you sit back, sip on a glass of red, and just enjoy the good life.
